Webinar on “AI for Decision Makers” by Ateneo Family Business Development Center

On November 21, 2024, Mr. Matthew Laurence Uy from the Ateneo Family Business Development Center delivered an engaging and insightful talk titled “AI for Decision Makers: A Non-Technical Overview of AI Applications for Decision Makers.” This event offered participants a clear understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its practical applications for business leaders, particularly those without technical expertise.

During the session, Mr. Uy defined Artificial Intelligence as “the study of how to produce machines that have some of the qualities that the human mind has, such as the ability to understand language, recognize pictures, solve problems, and learn.” He emphasized that while AI is a powerful tool, it is not and will never be a perfect substitute for human judgment and intuition. AI’s capabilities are fundamentally limited by the quality of its input, as it cannot independently create or innovate without human direction.

Mr. Uy also addressed common assumptions about AI, highlighting its potential to enhance business operations by understanding needs, capturing essential data, and effectively processing and interpreting findings. However, he underscored the importance of ensuring a smooth introduction of AI to lower-level or non-technical employees. By taking deliberate steps to foster understanding and adoption, businesses can maximize AI’s benefits and ensure successful integration across their operations.
